The new method will offer all-weather recycling and a voucher system instead of the open recycle bins and throwing bags. Residents will receive barcoded vouchers in the mail in April, August and December that are redeemable at local stores, like Wal-Mart and Brookshires. Citizens will see their first vouchers in late April, and they will be good for two 25-count rolls of drawstring trash bags and one 25-count roll of clear drawstring recycle bags.
This increase of 25 clear bags, three times annually, will allow recycling in all weather conditions without changing the current Recycling Pick Up schedule. The green open recycle bins will be collected and redistributed in public school classrooms to model sustainability as fiscal responsibility.
In the coming weeks, the City will be spreading the news that Vouchers are Valuable!
